between our yards

The poet has to say this about her ku:
The haiku was inspired by a spring visit to my childhood home, where my father still lives. The old gate is one my siblings and I used to use to visit back and forth with the neighbour kids when we were young. It has not been used in years, but the wild fawn lilies blooming near the gate reminded me that it is still there, a symbol of past and potential friendships and the days when children played together outside throughout the neighbourhod. The lilies and the gate also remind me of my father and the things he nurtures and builds. Recently, my dad showed the gate to the mail-carrier to offer…
