I expected our readers would give us their unique perspectives on this mathematical ku, hence I delayed posting the backstory/ interpretation offered by the poet. However here it is:
The haiku references a geometry equation: C = 𝝅d. (The circumference of a circle equals pi times the diameter.) While looking at the moon reflected in a lake, I thought about how the moon’s reflected light is visually broken in the moving lake water. We, and the lake, would have a challenge drawing the original moon size from the moon pieces that we see. I imagined that the lake was shifting the reflections in an attempt to solve the moon structure, just like I was. Nature is math-friendly, so I could…
