Wonderfully penned poem and the reminiscence attached to it. Thanks for the details and the thought behind this haiku, Sanjuktaa! A pleasure to read!

Matthew Cariello says:

This is a one-draft poem that occurred to me just as it appears, with no revisions. I consider myself lucky to have written it down. It’s really a senryu with only one image and a reaction – “I think of my father” – with another reaction embedded in it – “thinking of his father.” Raking leaves is a seasonal reference in the US, that marks the changing season, so it acts as a kind of kigo. Every year we have to rake leaves, which is both a blessing and a burden. While we rake, we still live. Others have raked before us. The cycle continues.
