A TUESDAY FEATURE

hosts: Padma Rajeswari, K. Ramesh

guest editor: Aashna Goyal

Only the unpublished poems (that are never published on any social media platform/journals/anthologies) posted here for each prompt will be considered for Triveni Haikai India's monthly journal -- haikuKATHA, each month.

Poets are requested to post poems (haiku/senryu) that adhere to the prompts/exercises given.

Only 1 poem to be posted in 24 hours. Total 2 poems per poet are allowed each week (numbered 1,2). So, revise your poems till 'words obey your call'.

Responses are usually a mixture of grain and chaff. The poet has to be discerning about what to take for the final version of the poem or the unedited version will be picked up for the journal.

The final version should be on top of the original version for selection.

Poetry is a serious business. Give you best attempt to feature in haikuKATHA !!

.....................................................................................................................................

As a writer, I seek inspiration in the people I meet. I write about them, about how beautiful their existence is, how thankful I am to have them in my life. I weave their stories into my own, finding ways to express the impact they’ve had on me through metaphors and imagery. I try to capture the essence of who they are, to paint a picture with my words that does justice to their beauty.

Yet, despite all the words I’ve written, there’s a longing in me that I can’t shake. To be the one who is written about, who is seen as worthy of description in beautiful words. But am I beautiful enough to be compared to flowers and nature? I wonder if I am pretty enough to be someone's muse, to inspire the kind of writing I so often create for others.

I am never the subject, always the poet. I give life to others’ stories, but who will give life to mine? If you were to describe me, what words would you choose? What metaphors would you use to capture who I am? Would you find beauty in the way I think, in the way my mind dances from one idea to the next? Would you see the depth of my emotions, often hidden but always there?

I wonder what it would feel like to read someone else’s words about me, to see myself through their eyes. To be described as something more than just a writer, but as a person who is worthy of being written about. This writer’s curse, to be able to write but never to be written.

Using this idea as inspiration, write a haiku. You may write about the writer’s curse, or you may choose to write about your fellow writer, giving them the chance to become the poem for once.

Not for this prompt though I wondered about a switch:

first raindrop

a Rorschach test

in my palm

first raindrop

the Rorschach test

in my palm

first raindrops

the Rorschach tests

in my palm

first rain

the Rorschach tests

in their palm

first rains

the Rorschach tests

on their palm

And other variations of course.
