learning the pine needles in my spine

--- GRIX

The New Green (2021)

Note by the Guest Editor:

These poems have been pulled from my ever-growing document of favorite haiku.

Some I have admired for years, while others I have newly discovered. This is the

joy of poetry, as of life: its ever-changing course of discovery. I encourage all

readers of poetry to keep such a file. As far as has been possible, I have obtained

permission from the writers to share them.

Thank you so much to the triveni team and to paul for hosting my haiku today. This is my "go to the pine" poem, I suppose. I know it may feel like a very distant juxtaposition for most people, but that is how I tend to write. Thank you for the comments. Much appreciated. Robin

Replying to

Lovely to read your interpretation, Robin. This is my "go to the pine" poem, I suppose.

Yes, I see this now as you have expressed it. Wow!

Beautiful one-line ku. Grix has given us a good concrete poem here. Leaning on a metaphor - the reference to the pain which is alive in her spine.

Good one.
