Ruth says-
The story behind the verse: As soon as I saw this first tulip, I knew the neighborhood deer would eat it (and all the others that would bloom later), so I "rescued" it and brought it inside where I was able to enjoy it for quite a while instead. The "you" is me addressing myself.
Lovely and multilayered. There is a surprise element by the time one reaches L3. Indeed, some moment has been mysteriously captured so well so as to give space to many interpretations. Thanks for sharing!
Very deep though the simplicity is there. Hope the poet can throw light on it.
Haiku has a lot to say the moment the word, 'first' is mentioned.
And the same here too. I feel there's something hidden behind the scene that has urged her to write
'picking it'.
Apart from the beautiful ambiguity, there's something about this one I cannot quite pinpoint. Great pick, Vandana!
She could have been talking about the deer around where we live, or a person, perhaps a child or a husband. I like it a lot!
