Bee Jay says:

The poem was inspired by an overweight friend of mine who used to be thin when younger. I noticed

how, as he got older, he sometimes knocked his elbows or his hips when he walked through doorways as

if he had forgotten how wide he had become. On another level, the poem also hints

at how some people appear to become narrow-minded as they get older, although I do not know if this will be evident

to readers. On yet another level, it also implies that opportunities for advancement can diminish once you get to a certain age.
