I loved the first and the last words of this poem that captures everything like a viscious circle

romance roaming the boardwalk to the end of summer romance roaming....

It goes on and on and then there comes a time when we stop abruptly at 'end'!

Nothing but just a memory!

Lovely! The monoku is something I’m experimenting with, of late. The words evoke nostalgic memories of an era past, the innocence of childhood, the unstated romance of teenage. Barrie’s narration captures all this so brilliantly.

My childhood visits to the shore began with my grandparents’ tiny cottage on a sandy street. After a day at the beach, grandma served a home cooked meal in the heavy style of the “old country,” perhaps a meat stew with carrots and potatoes. We were allowed to roam the boardwalk before dark, where we envied the kids with "beach food," hotdogs slathered with mustard and relish.


The salt air, the sweet or salty treats, the splintery boardwalk, the calliope music from the carousel and the sound of the rolling waves were a feast for our senses, the romance in my poem. How we wished that life as we knew at the summer shore would linger forever, whatever age we…
