I grew up in a town called Bay Shore on Long Island (in New York State), and as both those place names suggest I was always near the water. Over the first five decades of my life, even after moving away, I would return and often visit the ocean with my mother. She absolutely loved the water -- she lived for the summer -- and passed that love on to me.
