Here is what Bob Lucky says about the poem -
As for a back story.... Well, it was long ago — and written ten years after my brother had died. I was just wondering what if he had died on 29 February. Would he still be alive, technically, during the non-leap years? The haiku clearly went in a slightly different direction, but that's the origin story.
I remember people make fun of those whose birthdays fall on a leap year. I liked the way poets have thought about this aspect too to write their poems and such a good thing.
So happy to see you @Aparna Pathak , I just saw this time. Well selected poem.
