“As for the origins of the verse, it is somewhere between a 'desk-ku' & a memory. I wrote it in direct response to a daily Twitter writing prompt (#vss365,or very short story 365 days a year). The prompt word for that day was "season", which made me think of the current one (summer). Grasping for images that could be interesting & provide a contrast to a summer night, I began remembering late night walks from the train station to my home after work, passing neighbors' houses that were dark. Seeing unlit Christmas lights still hanging from the eaves of a house in summer isn't the norm, but it isn't unheard of either. It always made me wonder if…
