I was initially attracted to this poem maybe because I, too love birds and like to watch them. But beyond that,this poem speaks to me on many levels. Hope it does to you too. Here is Carole MacRury with her lovely insightful commentary and she shared two gorgeous pictures as well with us.

I photograph Great Blue Herons in all seasons.   Some of these photos have illustrated chapbooks, and one, which I’ve attached won the cover illustration for “Heron’s Nest’, in 2015.  Also, I’ve written many heron haiku, and won other contests using the heron as theme. “ sinking sun / the heron stalks what’s left / of the day” Francine Porad Haiku Award, 2015 3rd Prize.
