The haiku first appeared in Modern Haiku 50.1 (Winter-Spring 2019), and as far as I know it hasn't appeared anywhere else. As for the story behind it, I'm afraid there's not much of one; I simply wanted to capture that sense of possibility that comes with a New Year, that psychological "turning of a page" that makes us reflect on where we've been and, most important, where we're going. We have such a limited understanding of the cosmos and existence (a peephole's worth), but there are moments when what's possible seems limitless.
