hinged shoji

softly the sound

of his grief

Excellent haiku! Emotions are captured so well. I also get a different perspective. The grief will slowly end, slowly by closing the shoji. Time heals

Regarding how this beautiful poem came to be written, Naia shared this with us:

The initial inspiration came from revisiting memories of the death of my beloved golden retriever, Casey, and how my other pets grieved along with me. I pondered on the way humans and animals grieve, often seeking solitude and seclusion to fully experience the depth of emotion. As I did so, this haiku grew into being.
