A natural scientist by education, before a peripatetic life in the foreign service I published papers in Nature and other scientific periodicals, and afterwards, long-form poetry in The Oxford Magazine and elsewhere. Several hundred haiku and related shortform poetry in many journals. From March 2024 I'm one of the ten editors worldwide for the annual Red Moon Anthology. I host the weekly haiku commentary feature at The Haiku Foundation. Presented on Vulgarity in Haiku for Poetry Pea 2022, and on Toriawase May 2023. Married, five children, patient wife, grey parrot, cottage garden, and a sense of humour.
