Published in Chiyo-ni: Woman Haiku Master, Translated by Patricia Donegan/Yoshie Ishibashi

My theme is haikai poems from books I have read and enjoyed and want to share with the Triveni family. Each poem is from a different book and there are a range of subjects. Hope you and Triveni visitors enjoy the poems.

Thank you for being our next guest editor, Namratha. It will be great to read poems immortalized on paper. I am sure our members will look forward to reading your selections all through this month.

Although we frequently read in well-meaning guidelines that statements and aphorisms are to be avoided in haiku, many of the best-loved verses by the masters are just such. I have a whole stack of them in a file. I wonder whether the ELH editors of today would accept this fine haiku by Chiyo-ni if submitted under some other name, or reject it as being 'authorial' ?....
