whalebone

winter rain
-- Billie Wilson
First Place 2003 Harold Henderson Award
Note by the Guest Editor:
These poems have been pulled from my ever-growing document of favorite haiku.
Some I have admired for years, while others I have newly discovered. This is the
joy of poetry, as of life: its ever-changing course of discovery. I encourage all
readers of poetry to keep such a file. As far as has been possible, I have obtained
permission from the writers to share them.

This poem is very deep as regards the conservation and preservation of our ecosystem is concerned.
'whalebone' takes us to a different biological and natural history.
'Savoonga' in Alaska
and then the
'winter rain'
.
The imagery lingers, Paul. Today's autumn weather outside suddenly moves geography. Thanks for this moment.
Beautiful! A compelling image. I have flash cards with my favourite haiku and tanka. Keeping a file too is a lovely way.
Thank you dso much, Paul for a brilliant start. I love Billie Wilson's poems.
