Navratri is a nine-day festival, dedicated to Goddess Durga and her nine avatars and is celebrated with great devotion and fervour throughout India. Navratri symbolises the victory of good over evil, where Goddess Durga battles the demon Mahishasura and ultimately vanquishes him. The battle between Ma Durga and Mahishasura is a battle of the ego, when the ego perishes, order is restored to the universe. As it marks the advent of Goddess Durga on Earth, devotees offer prayers along with special food to the nine avatars of the Goddess. This year Navratri will be observed from 7th to 15th of October.
